- Note
- In the early 1990s Winnipeg Architect Rudy Friesen established contact with a Sergei Shmakin who helped Friesen acquire historical materials from Russian archives on former Mennonite buildings in Ukraine. Together they produced a calendar with photos of historic Mennonites buildings. During this time, Rudy Friesen presented Aleksandr Tedeev, Director, Zaporozhe Regional State Archives, with a computer in exchange for photocopies of Mennonite related archival materials. These materials were then the product of that gift exchange -- selected and photocopied by A.S. Tedeev in 1995 and received in 1996 by Lawence Klippenstein, Director, Mennonite Heritage Centre. The original materials are dated from 1869 to 1929.
