Biographical history

Whitefield United Church existed in the Manitoba community of Whitefield, located west of Souris from 1925 to 1943. Its predecessor was a Presbyterian Church that was relocated to the northeast corner of 29-7-22 in Whitefield from Menteith, Manitoba, in 1910. After Union in 1925, the former Bethel Methodist Church one mile away was the predominant church used in the area, although Whitefield was supplied regularly by the minister in Souris until 1932. The church stopped receiving even occasional supply in 1941, and began to be used as an Airforce Force meeting place. In 1943, an offer by the Church of The Nazarene in Brandon to purchase the building for $400 was accepted. By that time, most of the congregation of Whitefield United Church had already transferred to either Souris or Bethel.

Custodial history

The records of Whitefield United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records from the Souris-Elgin Pastoral charge in 2009.

Scope and content

The records of Whitefield United Church held at the conference archives include records of the congregation (1896-1928).
