Biographical history

Westworth United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1950. The Church Extension Council purchased a lot for the Westworth congregation at Haskins (now Grosvenor) and Lanark in June of 1950. Construction began on a temporary building on the site in October and Dr. Duckworth held the first church service in the structure in December. The church's name was created by combining 'west' (from West River Heights) and 'worth' (the last half of Dr. Duckworth's name). The first annual congregational meeting of Westworth United Church was held in January 1951. Construction of a Christian Education building for the Westworth congregation began in April 1954, and the building was completed and dedicated in December. The Christian Education Auditorium was used for worship services until 1959, when a sanctuary was erected. The Westworth United Church sanctuary was officially opened and dedicated in March 1959. Westworth United Church is presently located at 1750 Grosvenor Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
