Biographical history
West Hawk United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of West Hawk Lake, southeast of Brereton Lake, since 1964. It was originally known as the All People's United Church. Services were first held in the home of Carol and Henry Krysko and conducted by The Rev. Bob Wells. Later, the services were moved to the Community Club. In 1963, a parcel of land at West Hawk Lake was donated by Finley McCallum, Roy Finley and Don Patterson. It was constituted a congregation by Selkirk Presbytery on June 9, 1964. A church was built in 1965 and officially opened on July 11 that same year. The pews for the new church came from the Oak River United Church. The name of the church changed to West Hawk United Church in January of 1966. West Hawk United Church and Ross United Church in Whitemouth amalgamated as one charge in 1982 but split apart again in 1985. Kenora and Keewatin also provided Sunday School for West Hawk United Church for several years. For most of its history, services have been provided by students, part-time ministers, or Lay Supply. At the time of description, West Hawk Lake United Church is a single-point pastoral charge in Selkirk Presbytery.
