Biographical history

Walter was born February 24th, 1932 and is a long-time resident of The Pas. His father arrived in The Pas in 1914 (from the Ukraine) and worked on the Port Nelson Railway Route, then worked for The Pas Lumber Company from 1924-1956. His mother’s grandparents came from the Ukraine to Manitoba in the 1880s. Walter’s parents were married in The Pas in 1927. He was at one time a board member of the Sam Waller Museum.

Consists of one CD (PA2006.6.23), one minidisk (PA2006.6.33) and a transcript for the interview with Walter Krivda conducted by Keith Hyde. Topics covered include his memories of Trappers’ Festival, his attendance of the first festival in 1947, his favorite events, the Whatsit Contest, the trapping events, skinning, the way of life in the early years of The Pas, the town reputation, the reserve, and the Aboriginal people’s enjoyment of the Trappers’ Festival events
