Biographical history

Walter Gore was born in Waterside, Scotland on October 8, 1910. He studied acting at the Italia Conti Academy, and dance with Léonide Massine and with Marie Rambert. He danced with the Ballet Rambert from 1930 to 1935. He choreographed Final Waltz for the Ballet Rambert in 1938 and continued to choreograph for them until 1950. He founded his own company, The Walter Gore Ballet, in 1953. He led the Frankfurt Ballet from 1957 to 1959, then became the founder and director of the London Ballet from 1961 to 1963, after which he became director of the new Gulbenkian Ballet in Lisbon, Portugal. He was also the founder and artistic director of the Australian Theatre Ballet in Melbourne. He choreographed The Last Rose of Summer for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1971. Walter Gore passed away on April 16, 1979 in Pamplona, Spain.
