Name of creator
Victoria United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of Victoria, located in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood, since 1925. Its predecessor was Victoria Presbyterian, built in 1883. The Balmoral/ Victoria congregation was officially organized in November of 1925, when the Victoria church reopened after not being used since 1917. Rev. J.B. McLaren presided. At first, Balmoral and Victoria were once again considered one congregation, but later they developed into 2 independent congregations with one Session. Brant / Argyle was added to the charge in 1929. Between 1941 and 1947 discussions were held about the possibility of closing Victoria and the effect that would have on the other two churches in the charge. Victoria amalgamated with Balmoral when Balmoral moved to the Stonewall charge in 1947. Victoria United Church was still used for services once a month during the summers of 1949 to 1960. As of 1989, a service is held once a year.
The records of Victoria United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of several transfer of records in 1978, 1983 and 1985.
