Biographical history

Ulrich Dueck was born ca. 1920 in West Prussia. He published the genealogy book Die Familie Rahn von Tiegenhof (1986). He was living in Groß Himstedt 49, 31185 Söhlde, Germany in 2001

Custodial history

Genealogist Hermann Schirmacher of Leopoldshöhne, Germany copy the Ulrich Dueck charts in 2001. In 2002 Schirmacher shipped this collection to the Mennonite Library and Archives, North Newton, Kansas together with the Herman Thiessen collection which Schirmacher had acquired. Tim Janzen of Portland, Oregon sponsored the cost of shipping the materials from Germany to the USA and the cost of the microfilming, duplicating and distributing to Mennonite archives. The Mennonite Heritage Centre received the materials in early-2003.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of 454 genealogical charts. These charts usually begin with a Mennonite ancestor in the 1700s and then shows descendants down to the later 20th century. The focus of the materials is on West Prussian Mennonites.

Physical condition

Immediate source of acquisition

Partially arranged and processed by John D. Thiessen, archivist at Mennonite Library and Archives, September 2001. There does not seem to be any order to the sheets, so they were numbered sequentially as they were found in the box when they arrived at the Mennonite Library and Archives. This may preserve some kind of obscure ordering among the sheets. Sheet 103 was wrapped around sheets 104-112. Sheets 132-144 are not charts but biographical articles, etc. Sheets 145-188 were grouped together. Sheets 145-160 were a grouped labeled "Isaak Toews (Martin Toews)". Sheets 155-156 were grouped together. Sheets 157-158 were grouped together. Sheets 161-173 were grouped together. Sheets 162-163 were grouped together. Sheets 161-173 were labeled "Anna Stoeß I oo Cornelius Andres/ II oo Toews". Sheets 176-177 were grouped together. Sheets 211-216 were grouped together. Sheets 189-255 were grouped together. Sheets 226-249 were grouped together. Sheets 268-278 were grouped together. Sheet 279 was wrapped around sheets 280-306. Sheets 362-363 were grouped together.
