History

Trininy United Church (I) existed in the Winnipeg community of St. Boniface from 1952 to 1969. A survey of the St. Boniface area was conducted under the direction of the Norwood Church Session in 1951 and 1952. In response, a congregation was formed under the leadership of retired minister Rev. D. R. Patterson. The Church Extension Council of Winnipeg Presbytery provided the congregation with a building that formerly belonged to the Grey Street United Church of Elmwood. The building was placed on a site at 563 Deniset Ave in St. Boniface and was renovated by volunteer labour. By the fall of 1952, the congregation had adopted the name Trinity United Church, they had acquired, renovated, and dedicated their church building, and they had organized a Sunday School. Membership of Trinity United Church began declining in the mid 1960's. In 1968 Winnipeg Presbytery suggested that the congregation of Trinity disband. Trinity United Church officially closed in June 1969 with the proceeds from the sale of the church and property going to the Board of Home Missions. Some of the items from within Trinity United Church were donated to the Chinese United Church. Note: Trinity United Church (c.1952) has been designated 'I' in order to recognize it as a separate congregation from Trinity United Church (c.1965), which has been designated with 'II'.
