Biographical history

Transcona Memorial United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1943. Transcona Memorial Church was formed in 1943, from the union of Yale Avenue United Church and Knox United Church. The amalgamated congregation utilized the former Knox United Church structure for worship. In 1951, the congregation of Springfield United Church also joined Transcona Memorial. With an expanding congregation, Transcona Memorial began planning for a new church building. In 1953, the former Yale Avenue United Church structure was torn down, and a new church was built in its place, with some funding assistance provided by the Church Extension Council. The new Transcona Memorial United Church was dedicated in September 1953. Beginning in 1960, the church was forced to rent space from Regents Park School for Sunday School classes. In 1963, construction of a Christian Education hall was completed. The auditoriums and lower halls of Transcona Memorial United Church are named in honour of the founding congregations of the church: Yale, Springfield, Knox, and Suthwyn. Transcona Memorial United Church is located at 209 Yale Avenue West, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
