Name of creator
Steven Ben Hyde was born July 16, 1962 was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His first performances were musicals performed at the Barn Theatre in Florida. He began his ballet training in 1979 at the Ballet Arts Theatre. He also studied dance at Ballet Florida from 1980 to 1983. He joined the Royal Winnipeg in 1983 as a member of the corps de ballet. He was promoted to soloist in 1985 and to Principal Dancer in 1987. In 1990, he received a certificate for Excellence in Partnering at the International Ballet Competition in Varna. He moved to New York in January of 1992 to develop a freelance career but joined the American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in 1993. He returned to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1997 as a guest Principal Dancer. In January 2000, he became a Ballet Master with the New England Ballet Company. Since 2006, he has been the Director of Classical and Contemporary Dance at the Orange County School of the Arts.
The records of Steven Hyde came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet archives as part of a transfer of records from the RWB and were also collected by the Alumni Association.
