Biographical history

Stéphane Léonard was born in Montreal and studied dance at the Vaganova Institute and the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of Opera and Ballet in Russia, with whom he performed from 1990 to 1992. He danced at the National Ballet of Canada from 1993 to 1995, and then returned to Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of Opera and Ballet to further his studies from 1995 to 1997. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet in 1998 and was promoted to second soloist in 1999 and first soloist in 2001. He retired from dancing the following year and joined the teaching faculty at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, eventually becoming the director of the Aspirant Programme. Stéphane choreographed The Misadventures of Pinocchio for the school in 2015.

Custodial history

The records of Stéphane Léonard came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet archives as several transfers of records from the RWB and were also collected by members of the Alumni Association.
