Administrative history

Settlement began in the area circa 1889, and the parish was canonically erected in 1895. The first church (built in 1891-92) was replaced in 1898. The second church burned in 1915 and the third one was blessed the following year. The third church burned in 1959. Its replacement and the grotto were blessed in 1961. There were 282 families in the parish in 1966. A school opened in 1895, and the Sisters of Our Lady of the Mission arrived to teach in 1900. The Grey Nuns took charge of a new hospital in 1939.

Custodial history

Textual records 1895--1916 were transferred from the Archdiocese of St. Boniface circa 1917.

Scope and content

The fonds consists primarily of correspondence created or received by the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. It also includes a 1948 book in French by Anatole Theoret, "Sainte-Rose-du-Lac" and a souvenir album (bilingual).
