Biographical history

Stanley Simmons was born October 16, 1926 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He studied both art and dance, attending the Art Students League in New York. As a professional dancer, he danced with The John Butler, Michael Kidd, Helen Tamiris and Jerome Robbins dancer companies. He returned to his art training when Agnes de Mille asked him to design the costumes for Golden Age. He designed the costumes for Sebastian when it was performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1971. Besides ballet, Stanley also designed for the theatre, including Broadway, as well as television specials. Stanley Simmons passed away September 4, 1999 in Los Angeles, California.
