Administrative history

The first record of Catholics in the Dauphin area was in 1880. The railroad came through Dauphin in 1896, and visits from priests (who said Mass in private homes) became more regular after that. A church was built in 1905 when there were 9 families (45 people) in the community. In 1909, the archbishop made his first visit to confirm 25 people, and the first resident pastor (a Cleric of St. Viator) was appointed. By 1922, the congregation had grown to 64 families and a new church was built. A parochial school was opened in the old church. A third church was built in 1960 as the congregation had grown to 350 families by 1955. That church burned in 1988 and the fourth St. Viator's was dedicated in 1991.

Custodial history

Textual records 1909-1915 were transferred from the Archdiocese of St. Boniface circa 1917.

Scope and content
