Biographical history

St. James United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1929. St. James United Church resulted from the amalgamation of Hampton Street United Church and Parkview United Church. Upon union, the St. James United Church congregation met in the Parkview United Church structure and the Hampton Street United Church building was sold. The former Presbyterian minister of Hampton Street Church, Harry Duckworth, became the minister of St. James United Church. St. James United Church is located at 234 Parkview Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Custodial history

The records of St. James United Church came to the conference archives of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records in 1993.

The surviving records of St. James United Church are arranged in the following series: Sacramental Registers, including Baptisms, 1926-1951, Marriages, 1926-1960, and Burials, 1926-1954; Membership Rolls and records of the Session, including communion rolls and registers, rolls and minutes, 1929-1961; records of the Official Board, including minutes, 1929-1940; records of the Joint Board Committee, including minutes, 1929-1936; Annual Reports, 1985-1993; records pertaining to the Board of Stewards and church property, including inventory and financial records, 1929-1930; records pertaining to amalgamation/union, 1929; records pertaining to the Mission Band, 1943-1960; and reference material, including church histories, correspondence, pamphlets/brochures and orders of service.
