Administrative history

The community was originally named Huns Velley. Its name was changed to Polonia sometime between 1915 and 1921. Between 1888 and 1891, Huns Valley was a mission of St. Augustine's parish in Brandon. St. Elizabeth church and cemetery were blessed in 1893. A second church was completed in 1902 and the first resident priest arrived in 1903, although the parish was not canonically erected until 1909.

Custodial history

Textual records 18185-1915 were transferred fronm the Archdiocese of St. Boniface circa 1917.

Scope and content

The fonds consists primarily of correspondence created or received by the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. It also includes copies of a souvenir booklet "St. Elizabeth Church 1887-1962 and a photocopy of a section of the book "Along the Hills to the Valley" by William R. Smith which pertains to the parish. There is extensive information on the social history of the area.
