Biographical history

Sparling United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1925. The predecessor of Sparling United Church was Sparling Methodist Church. Sparling United Church utilizes the former Methodist church structure, located at Elgin Avenue and Worth Street. In 1960, the congregation organized a building committee and construction began on a Christian Education building the following year. The Christian Education building was dedicated in 1961. Consistent with the history of flooding experienced by the Sparling Methodist congregation, the Sparling United Church was challenged by flooding in both 1950 and in 1962. In 2017, the congregation got permission to sell the property and manse to sustain the congregation. Sparling United Church was located at 1609 Elgin Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba and manse was located 1490 Burrows Avenue. The congregation meets at a seniors centre and office space shared with Rosser United Church.
