Administrative history

The Royal Black Preceptory was formed in Ireland in 1797. It is a senior protestant fraternity for members who have been a member of the Orange Order for at least twenty-five years. Members of the order are referred to as Royal Blacks Knights. The Royal Black Preceptories are not under the jurisdiction of the Orange Order, but they uphold the same principles taught and upheld in the association. The South Western Manitoba Royal Black Preceptories (R.B.P.) were located in South Western Manitoba between 1895 to 1980. The South Western Manitoba Royal Black Preceptory records were obtained by the Brandon Loyal Orange Lodge #1512 as the Preceptories ceased to operate. The Brandon R.B.P. #732 formed in 1907 and is believed to have ceased to operate around the same time as the Brandon Loyal Orange Lodge # 1512 which ceased to operate in 2000.

Custodial history

The records were delivered to Daly House Museum by the last Worshipful Master Robert Booth of the Brandon Loyal Orange Lodge # 1512 on behalf of the Grand Orange Lodge of Western Canada. Daly House Museum contacted the Grand Lodge of Western Canada and received permission in 2008 to acquire, have title, and to make the records available for research use with no restrictions on access, copying or publication.
