Biographical history

Solomon Isaievich Hurok was born April 9, 1888 in Pogar, Chernigov Governorate, Russian Empire. He immigrated to the United States in 1906. He became an impresario who managed many performing artists and groups, such as the Ballet Russe and the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo with his firm, Hurok Concerts, Inc. From 1964 until 1972, he managed the Royal Winnipeg Ballet on tour. He received the Order of Commander of the British Empire, the Officier of the Legion of Honor in France and the Scroll of Honour from New York, New York. Sol Hurok passed away on March 5, 1974 in New York, New York.

Custodial history

The records of Sol Hurok came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet archives as part of a transfer of records from the RWB.
