Name of creator
Sifton, Manitoba lies north of Dauphin on the Canadian National Railway line. The area around Sifton had been a Presbyterian Mission Field and a Woman's Missionary Society School Home had been located there. Sifton United Church was formed in 1925. It was preceeded by a union congregation. In 1925, Sifton was part of the Fairville Pastoral charge along with Fairville, Melton and Ripon. In 1933, the field expanded to include Listowel, Dauphin Plains, Wilson River, Dublin Bay, and West Bay. By 1955 Sifton was part of the Dauphin Plains United Church Field. In 1960 the preaching points of Dauphin Plains United Church Field included Fairville, Sifton and Dauphin Plains. During the 1960s Sifton was part of the Winnipegosis-Ethelbert-Pine River Charge. Soon after Sifton United Church was closed and the building was sold in 1969.
The records of the Dauphin Pastoral Charge came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of two transfers of records from the charge in 1996 and 1998. While the run of Sacramental Registers appears to be reasonably complete for most congregations there are significant gaps in the records of church management, such as the records of the Official Boards, Sessions and the Committees of Stewards. The records of Lay Associations, specifically women's groups, are usually more complete.
