Administrative history

Officially opened on July 15, 1992, the aims and objectives of the Centre, as stated in one of their first newsletters, are: 1. To establish a permanent collection of Seton books, papers and memorabilia 2. To research the availability of all Seton and related material in North America for the purpose of on-going rotating displays 3. To establish an audio/video library of Seton and related material especially pertaining to "Carberry experience." 4. To market Seton-related material including limited edition art prints, books, audio/visual material and photographs 5. To establish a unique and distinctive facility to house displays and attract visitors 6. To establish an educational liaison with the current elementary school system with initial pilot projects including the re-introduction of Seton stories into the classrooms of Manitoba 7: To present an educational program utilizing a network of Seton scholars and prominent scientists in a number of specialties from biology to the environment. The first Board of Directors was: Chairperson - Errol Bredin, Vice-Chairperson - Gerry Oliver, Treasurer - Carole Reilly, Secretary - Mary-Ann Baron; Nancy Lyons, Peter Kramarchuk, Peggy McPherson; Honorary Director - Dee Seeton Barber. The Centre is housed in a Heritage building on Carberry's Main Street. The current Board, chaired by Cheryl Orr-Hood, in 2010 added an addition to the building including a washroom, multi-purpose room and storage, plus a native plant garden in the rear of the building. This Board has also been actively restoring, stabilizing and refurbishing the original building to meet Carberry's Heritage District standards, adding a sign, awning and lighting to the front.
