History

Margaret Ann Aikins was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in November 22, 1915. She attended Havergal School in Winnipeg, but attended a high school in Montreal. After graduation, she studied art in England. She married George Sellers in 1936, and she began participating in various volunteer boards, such as St. John’s College and the Red River Exhibition. She served as a member of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet from 1958 to 1962 and belonged to the RWB Advisory Committee from 1965 to 1973. She was made an Honorary Fellow of St. John’s College in 1986, from which she later received an Honorary Doctor of Canon Law. In 1987 she established the George H. Sellers Endowment Fund for promoting cancer research and established the Margaret Ann Sellers Chair of Cell Biology at the Manitoba Cancer Foundation in 1998. She was the first recipient of the Janice Filmon Award for Leadership in the Advancement of Cancer Care and Research in Manitoba in 1999. Margaret Sellers passed away October 1, 1999 in Winnipeg.
