History

Mary Schroeder was born on 12 August 1919 in Neuenburg, South Russia. She immigrated to Canada in 1923 with her parents Kornelius J. Neufeld and Maria (Froese) Neufeld. She married Constantin Peter Schroeder (1916-1967). They had two children – Hilda and Marianne. As a young adult (and before she was married in 1959) she worked as a volunteer in places such as the Rosthern Nursing Home, the Rosthern Bible School, Brandon Mental Hospital and Ninette Sanatorium. She also worked in a Niagara canning factory in 1948. She was not a nurse, but called a “nursing assistant” who was supervised by a nurse. She also spent two winters as a cook at the Rosthern Bible School. She died in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on 15 April 2005.
