Biographical history

The purpose of the Rupert's Land Retreat Association was to encourage and provide retreats for the laity and clergy at the Diocesan level and to help any other groups within the Diocese who wished to participate in their own retreats. At the suggestion of Miss V.P. Archibald, the first Women's retreat was held in May 1948. Bishop L. Ralph Sherman endorsed the idea of an Annual Week – End Retreat for Laymen in his 1949 Bishop's Charge and requested that a committee be formed to organize it. The last president of the Rupert's Land Retreat Association was Mrs. Carolyn Thompson.

Custodial history

The records of the Rupert's Land Retreat Association came to the Diocesan archives as part of several transfers of records in 1986; 1993; and 1995.
