Administrative history
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) was incorporated as a non-profit cultural organization on February 22, 1949. The first president of its Board of Directors was Dr. A.H.S. Gillson and Lady Margaret Tupper was the first Vice-President. There were 21 members on the original Board. An Honorary Council was established in 1967, the President’s Council in 1984, and the National Council in 2006, which was divided in 2009 and an International Council was created. The purpose of these councils is to involve other influential people who are not currently Board members and/or who live outside of Manitoba or Canada in the promotion of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet through advocacy and fundraising.
The Executive members of the Board ensure that the Company are good keepers of the Public Trust and meet regularly to review the activities of the artistic and administrative staff, the various Board committees and to set policies to be taken to the entire Board. Some subcommittees have included Finance, School, Membership, Production, and various short –term fundraising committees.
