He moved to Canada in 1968 and earned a Physics degree at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario before continuing his dance training as a scholarship student at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. He also received scholarships to study at Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, the Banff Summer School, as well as in New York. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet in 1972 and was promoted to soloist in 1974. He became a Principal Dancer in 1977.
