Biographical history

Robertson Memorial United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1925. The predecessors of Robertson Memorial United Church were Robertson Memorial Presbyterian Church (1911-1925), Alfred Avenue Mission (1907-1911), and Dufferin Avenue Presbyterian Church (1901-1911). The Robertson Memorial United congregation occupied the building erected by the Robertson Presbyterian congregation in 1911, on the corner of Burrows and McKenzie. In 1933, Robertson Memorial United Church began to share its space with the Ukrainian United congregation of Winnipeg, and continued to do so until the Ukrainian United congregation officially disbanded on October 31, 1961. Robertson Memorial United Church held its final service on June 22, 1997.

Custodial history

The records of Robertson Memorial United Church came to the conference archives as part of several transfers of records between 1970 and 2006.

The surviving records of Robertson Memorial United Church are arranged in the following series: Sacramental Registers, pertaining to Baptisms, 1923-1997 and 2000 , Marriages, 1921-1997, and Burials, 1932-1996; Membership Rolls and records of the Session, including communion rolls and registers and minutes, 1917-1963, and 1996; records of the Official Board of Managers, including minutes, 1926-1995; records of the Board of Stewards, including minutes, 1956 - 1995; records pertaining to Christian Education, including attendance rolls, minutes and financial records 1925 - 1976; Annual Reports, 1925-1995; records pertaining to church property, including financial records, papers, receipts and appraisals, 1982-1997;records of congregational meetings, including minutes, 1962 - 1972; records of Robertson House, including Annual Reports, 1970 - 1971;records of lay associations, including Ladies Friendly Society, Elizabeth White Group, Kindergarten Mother's Group, Young Women's Group/Study Club, Women's Missionary Society, Young People, Ruala, Hi-C, Ekolelas Group, United Church Women, and Minnie Houston Study Group, 1925-1959; records of the Fresh Air Camp, 1916-1946; records of special projects and programs, including 'Streetwork', Teen Opportunity, Teen Needs Survey, Tenant Organizing, 'Unholy Trinity', 'Summer in the City', New Wineskins', and program groups, 1969-1973; "Broadcaster" newsletters dating from 1956 - 1978 (n.i.) and reference material, including sermons and notes, guest books,orders of service, newsletters, church histories/congregant histories and historical items.
