Name of creator
Robert Moulton was born on July 20, 1922. He began his dance training at the age of nine, but his interests later included choreography and design. In 1958, he choreographed and designed the sets and costumes for Grasslands for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. That same year an exhibit of his costumes and drawings was shown at the Sao Paulo Arts Festival in Brazil. He designed the costumes and choreographed Brave Song in 1959 and The Beggar’s Ballet in 1963 for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as well. He directed and choreographed shows for Rainbow Stage, the Contemporary Canadian Dancers, Calgary Dance Theatre, Duluth Civic Ballet, and Minnesota’s Stagecoach Players. During this time, he was an assistant professor in Speech and Theatre at the University of Minnesota, where he also dramatized children’s theatres and created University revues. Robert Moulton passed away on June 4, 1994.
The records of Robert Moulton came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as part of a transfer of records from the RWB and were also collected by members of the Alumni Association.
