Custodial history
Series is an artificial creation by the Archivist. Series was collected by the Nurses’ Alumnae Association.
Prior to 1904 a registry for individuals (who may or may not have professional nursing training), who were available to work as Private Duty nurses, had been established and managed by the medical Librarian in the library in the Boyd Building.
In 1904 the Registry of the Alumnae Association of the Winnipeg General Hospital (Nurses’ Registry) was established. It was a means for graduate nurses to have their names on a list accessible to anyone wishing to employ a nurse (private duty nursing). An agreement was reached between the Trained Nurses’ Association and the Y.W.C.A. to have a registry at the Y.W.C.A building and later on Langside Street. In 1913 maintenance of the registry was transferred to the Manitoba Association of Graduate Nurses (M.A.G.N). M.A.G.N became Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses and later the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
Scope and content
Series consists of the constitution and by-laws of the registry as well as clippings about the history of the registry.
