Administrative history
The Museum Pioneer Home was the family home of Perry and Edith Van Slyck (museum founder Winnifred Van Slyck's in-laws) up to 1945. After that it served as a residence for hired help until 1971. Between 1971 and 1976, it was restored to its original condition as a heritage project by Fred and Winnifred Van Slyck. In 1984, the home was donated to the Museum by the Van Slycks and the entire structure was moved to the museum property. The home has been completely decorated with period appropriate furnishings, most of which originally belonged to the Van Slyck family.
