From the time that a decision was made to begin planning for a permanent museum facility, fundraising became an important component of the activities of the Dugald Costume Collection, Inc. Board of Trustees and, later, museum staff. Formal fund development began with incorporation in 1977 when the decision was made to direct all proceeds of the Dugald Ladies Fashion Review to a museum construction fund. Initially fundraising efforts were directed by the President and Secretary-Treasurer of the museum Board of Trustees. After 1982, the Chair of the Finance Committee coordinated fundraising efforts for the museum building campaign. This responsibility was devolved to museum staff after the appointment of a museum General Manager/Executive Director in 1991. By 1996, responsibility for the coordination of fundraising activities and the administration of grant-based funding programs had become the responsibility of the Marketing and Communications staff person. This arrangement was discontinued in 2000, when a separate Development Officer was hired with sole responsibility for fundraising and grant administration.
