Even before Union, there had been attempted negotiations between The Anglican and United Churches of Canada to form a new church union. The discussions reached their peak in the 1960's, when a draft form of the Principles of Union was published, outlining the shared beliefs and proposed organizational structure. Neither church could reach unanimous agreement, so the negotiations fell through by the 1970's.
