Biographical history
Poplar River United Church is located in the Manitoba First Nations community of Poplar River, located at the mouth of the Poplar River. The Methodist mission began around 1895, and a log church was built about 1900. The missionary was also responsible for serving the Big Black River community. A new church was dedicated on October 18, 1942. Throughout its history, Poplar River has been predominantly served by lay supply under the supervision of an ordained minister from another charge. For example, it was under the supervision of Fisher River from 1972 to 1973 and of Beren's River (with Little Grand Rapids) in the 1980s. A new church, co-owned with the Roman Catholics, was completed in August of 1987, and officially opened on December 13, 1987.
