General note

The town became part of Manitoba after the Manitoba boundary was extended west in 1881. E.C. Caddy was a land surveyor in southwestern Manitoba who identified this area, with three streams, as suitable for settlement. His survey created a town site with 500 lots, envisioning a steamboat landing and a railroad.
