Biographical history

Pinegrove United Church has existed in the Ontario community of Fort William, now known as Thunder Bay, since 1955. Presbytery minutes of September 13, 1955 indicate approval of a motion to give a grant of $500 and a loan of $1000 to assist in the purchase and renovation of a church building for the congregation at Pinegrove. Rev. Roland S. Harper was Pinegrove's first minister. A basement was added in 1957. Pinegrove briefly belonged to the Kam Valley and Pine Valley Pastoral charges in its earlier years. Even though the minister of Broadway United Church had previously taken the services at Pinegrove, it was not until July 1, 1972 that they officially joined the Broadway Pastoral charge to be named Pinegrove-Broadway. This partnership continued until 1992, when both congregations once again became independent. In 2006, the amalgamation resumed and to once again form the Pinegrove-Broadway Pastoral Charge.

Custodial history

The records of the Pinegrove United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records from Pinegrove United Church starting in 1984.
