Administrative history

The Children’s Hospital Book Market began in 1960 when the Chair of the Board of the Children’s Hospital, Mrs. Van Vliet, brought the idea back from Minneapolis. The first sale was held in 1961 at the Polo Park Shopping center. The Book Market was a joint effort by the six Guilds of the Children’s Hospitals to raise money to support children’s health care.
The Book Market received the Teddy Award in 1985 and the Mayor’s Volunteer Award in the Health Care category in 1985 as well.
