Biographical history

Petrel United Church existed in the Manitoba community of Petrel, located northeast of Brandon in the Rural Municipality of North Cypress, from 1925 to 1966. Its predecessors were Petrel Methodist Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, built in 1900 on the southeast corner of 1-12-15, continued to be used as the United Church. The Methodist Church was sold to a Simon McKinnon. For the first few years after Union, Petrel was a one - point charge. In 1928, Ingelow and Summerville were added to the charge under the leadership of Rev. A. Little. The charge remained unchanged until Petrel transferred to the Kerfoot pastoral charge with Wellwood in 1948. Petrel was supplied from Brookdale, Carberry and Kerfoot from 1949 to 1950. The last service at Petrel United Church occurred on June 26, 1966. The pulpit and organ from Petrel United Church were donated to the Carberry museum, where they are housed as part of the Petrel Chapel. A cairn was erected on the former site of the church and dedicated on July 26, 1981.
