Biographical history

Peter Skinner was born September 16, 1929 in Richmond, Surrey, England. He studied at the Sadler's Wells Ballet School and later joined the opera ballet there. He performed in the inaugural performance of The Sadler's Wells Ballet. He then worked in musicals and at the Malmö Opera House in Sweden. His choreographic career began at the Mercury Theatre in London. His work there earned him his first professional commission in 1952 to create a new version of Harlequinade for Festival Ballet. He co-founded the Western Theatre Ballet, which later became the Scottish Theatre Ballet. He choreographed Mayerling, and Chiaroscuro, which was performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. He received the Order of the British Empire in 1984. Peter Darrell passed away December 2, 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Custodial history

The records of Peter Darrell came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet archives were collected by members of the Alumni Association.
