Administrative history

The Pas Rotary Club was formed in 1928 at the instigation of J.A. Caulder, Director of Rotary International in Canada, and the organizing efforts of Dune Campbell, Fred Siebert and Pat Hunter. The formation of The Pas Rotary Club was approved by Rotary International on December 28th, 1928, and the official inaugural meeting was held on January 15th, 1929. Past Governor Stuart M. Campbell of Winnipeg presented Charter Number 3019 to President Barney Stitt, with Dune Campbell as secretary. Weekly meetings were held on Tuesdays at 12:15 pm at the Cambrian Hotel.

The Pas Rotary Club has been involved with and supportive of Sam Waller and his Little Northern Museum since its inception, contributing over the years to a variety of museum projects. For the Manitoba Centennial, in 1970, the Rotary Club decided to raise funds for a new Little Northern Museum building for Sam Waller. A corporation, Rotarel, was formed with Jack Johnson as President. Letters were written soliciting donations from local businesses, government grants were applied for, and these efforts were supplemented by conducting a variety of fundraisers, including walkathons, raffles and bingos. Profits from fundraising efforts, provincial grants and Town of The Pas contributions provided some $22,000 to build this new museum on Gordon Avenue. The official opening was on September 1st, 1970. In 1971 it was decided that the Town of The Pas would assume responsibility for day to day operations and the Rotary Club would take care of minor maintenance and future expansion.
