Custodial history

Record PA95.3.2 was donated to the Sam Waller Museum by the J. P. Podbisky Estate, care of J. Podbisky, on the 1st of February, 1995.

Scope and content

The Pas Postal Directory collection consists of the postal directories arranged by profession and/or occupation code numbers, business box numbers, P.O. Box numbers, and general delivery. The first mail deliveries began in 1856 courtesy of the Hudson Bay Company store. The first separate post office was located next door to the HBC store. After the Town of The Pas’ incorporation in 1912, the first appointed Post Master was R. H. Bagshaw. The current Post Office at 161 Fischer Avenue was constructed in 1932 by the Federal Government to house the Post Office, Customs Office and RCMP. The building now houses the Post Office and government offices.
