History

Onanole United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of Onanole, located about 100 kilometers north of Brandon and only a few kilometers south of Riding Mountain National Park, since 1956. By the early 1950s, Home Mission was supporting a Sunday school and monthly services in Onanole, and in 1954 it was reported to Presbytery that a congregation had formed there. In 1956, the Onanole congregation had bought a church building that was originally Neepawa Baptist Church, built ca. 1900, and moved it to the town. By the early 1990s, facing financial difficulty and low attendance, Onanole United Church pursued a closer relationship with Erickson Lutheran Church so as to share ministerial costs and services. By 2004, the connection between the two churches had grown to include joint annual general meetings, a shared building, pastor and many other expenses. As of 2009, Onanole United Church was the sole preaching place of the Onanole Pastoral Charge in the Assiniboine Presbytery. Worship is held at the Erickson Lutheran Church, located at 30-3rd St. SW in Erickson, Manitoba, which is about 15 kilometers south of Onanole.
