Biographical history

Oakville Union Church was formed in 1917 with Oakville's Methodist congregation as well as the Methodist congregations from Mill Creek and Beautiful Valley. In 1922, both the Methodists and Presbyterian congregations in Oakville, Mill Creek and Beautiful Valley came together in a Local Union. The first Union minister was Rev. R. Johnson. Services were held in the Oakville Methodist church until the Presbyterian church was equipped with pews and electric lights. The Union charge consisted of Oakville, Elm River, Mill Creek and Beautiful Valley. In 1925, Oakville Union Church formally joined the United Church of Canada.

Custodial history

The records of Oakville Union church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records in 1985.

Scope and content

The records of Oakville Union Church held at the conference archives include: a Sacramental register pertaining to Baptisms (1900-1925), Marriages (1903-1924), and Burials (1899-1923); records of the trustees (1900-1928) and minutes of the Ladies Aid (1917-1922, 1922-1923, 1923-1926).
