Biographical history

Northminster Memorial United Church has existed in the Manitoba community of Flin Flon, located 740 km north-northwest of Winnipeg, since 1928. When the congregation was first established in 1928, Rev. D.K. Burns from Cranberry Portage led the services, and the Pastoral field included Cranberry Portage and Island Falls. Cranberry Portage was dropped the following year. Northminster United Church was built on Church Street shortly after services began in Flin Flon, but the building is said to have been destroyed by fire. Island Falls left the charge in 1934. Until the lower hall of the second church was built on Hill Street in 1947, services were held in local halls and schools. The sanctuary of the new church was completed in 1948. The church became known as Northminster Memorial United Church in 1973. Northminster United Church helped to establish Birchview United Church in 1942, which appeared as a point in the field until 1961, although it was temporarily dropped in the late 1940s. It also sponsored the Willowvale United Church, built in 1955 and Grace United Church in Creighton, Saskatchewan, built in 1961. Grace United Church remained as part of the Northminster Pastoral charge until 1961. Grace United Church joined with Northminster United Church in 1978. The three congregations became known as Northminster Memorial United Church Flin Flon - Creighton Parish. At the time of description, Northminister Memorial United Church is a single-point pastoral charge in Northland Presbytery.
