Biographical history

The Ninga Methodist Church existed in the Manitoba community of Ninga, located northwest of Killarney in the Rural Municipality of Turtle Mountain, from 1891 to 1925. The region was originally known as the Turtle Mountain District, and extended from Cartwright to west of Deloraine. The Rev. Andrew Stewart served this district in 1882. The first Methodist services in Ninga were held in the second storey of the general store owned by J.D. McArthur. A church was built in 1891. Mr. D. Morden was in charge in 1892 when Ninga was officially made a circuit. By 1900, the minister in charge was also holding services in the Rowland District and occasionally in Hiawatha and surrounding areas as well. A Local Union with the Presbyterian and Methodist churches in Ninga, Lyonshall and Rowland was formed in 1922 with The Rev. W. M. Ruddle serving as minister and Ninga Methodist Church being used as the Union church. In 1925, Ninga Union Church officially joined The United Church of Canada and became Ninga United Church.
