Biographical history

The Methodist Church was the first church built in Nelson/Nelsonville, some time between 1877 and 1880, with Reverend Harrison presiding. The church was active in Nelson from 1877 to 1885. When the railway elected to go through Morden, Manitoba, eight miles southeast of Nelson, the community moved all businesses and buildings to Morden, including the Methodist church and manse. Services continued in Nelson, however, in homes, the hall, and the waiting room at the train station until the town's exodus of both people and property was complete in 1887.

Custodial history

The records of Nelson Methodist Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records in June of 1988 from the Pembina Pastoral charge.

Scope and content

The records of Nelson Methodist Church held at the conference archives include a Communion Roll (1886-1920).
