Administrative history

Nelson House United Church is located in the northern Manitoba community of Nelson House, 80 km west of Thompson. It first appears in the records in 1874, and in the early years, the mission was either known as Nelson House or Nelson River. Nelson River was visited once a year by a Methodist missionary by 1880. Rev. Semmons built the first church around 1875, which was replaced by another church about 1894. Another church was built around 1932, which was replaced in 1961 by a Christian Education building which served as both church and hall. Some discussion took place about the fate of the 1932 church. Suggestions were made to either sell the old church to the Catholics at St. Theresa's Point, or add it onto the hall as a new sanctuary, but the decision was finally made to tear it down.

Custodial history

The records of the Nelson House United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records in 1991, 2001, and 2016.
