Biographical history
Michael Douglas Peters was born August 6, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York and later briefly joined the Alvin Ailey Dance Company as a soloist. He choreographed and appeared in music videos for Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Pat Benatar, Billy Joel and Diana Ross. He has also choreographed television productions and commercials. Michael has won American Music awards for his music videos, a Tony, two Emmys and received the Billboard Magazine’s award as Best Choreographer. He was given the American Choreography Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Feature Film in 1994. He also directed the movie Dirty Dancing. In 1989, he made his debut as a dramatic director with the play West Memphis Mojo. He choreographed L.I.F.E. (Love Is For Eternity) for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for their fiftieth anniversary Gala in 1989. Michael Peters passed away in Los Angeles, California August 29, 1994.
