Biographical history

Michael O’Gorman was born in London, England on July 20, 1954, but moved to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada at the age of four. He first learned Irish Step Dancing at the age of nine. He began ballet classes at the Classical Ballet School in late 1971, and was accepted as a scholarship student at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1973. During this time, he spent his summers training at the Banff School of Fine Arts. He joined the London Festival Ballet in England in September of 1975, but returned to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet the following year. During this time, he also performed on Rainbow Stage. He left in 1980 to pursue a career on Broadway, and eventually appeared in television productions such as All My Children as well as film. Michael O’Gorman passed away in the mid 1990s.

Custodial history

The records of Michael O’Gorman came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Archives as a part of a transfer of records from the RWB and were also collected by members of the Alumni Association.

The Michael O’Gorman fonds includes the following series: photographs (1976-1979); newspaper article (1973); alumni questionnaire (1992); and biographical information (1976).
