Administrative history

Florence Elizabeth Menzies (1906-1987) was a nurse a collector of the family records. She was born in the Pleasant Point district to Elizabeth Jane (Clark) and Archibald Newell Menzies and had siblings Archie (1907-[ca. 1990]) and Susan (1905-). Menzies died in Carberry, Manitoba. She was educated in Pleasant Point and Carberry, and later graduated from Brandon Normal School. Menzies taught for twelve years, after which she became a Registered Nurse twenty 20 years, then became the first teacher of a Special Education class at the Carberry Elementary School. She retired in 1972. Menzies was awarded the Good Citizenship Award in 1979 for her dedication as a teacher and nurse.

Custodial history

Records have been presented to the Carberry Plains Archives in 1988 and 1989 by Susan Menzies of Carberry, Manitoba.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of correspondence, birth and death certificates, wedding invitation, brochure by Tourism Manitoba describing Menzies' award, other biographical material on Menzies, Clark/Menzie/Mitchell family histories, and newsclipping on Menzies' award. Includes booklet on Carberry Burying Ground. Photographs show family members, the Rural Municipality of North Cypress council members (ca. 1947).
